For the Commonwealth Games, GB22HQ will be operating from the Birmingham NEC. There are also seven ‘Special’ Special Event callsigns, one each from the four UK Home Nations and three Crown Dependencies. From the 25th of July until the 21st of August, the special callsigns will be available for activation by RSGB affiliated clubs or individual RSGB Members. To take part you must please first check the relevant Activation Schedule on QRZ.com for a slot to suit your availability. Then contact the callsign coordinator, who will be keen to help. They will book you in and update the schedule. Depending upon your location, the callsigns to look for are GB22GE, GB22GM, GB22GW, GB22GI, GB22GJ, GB22GU and GB22GD. More details at rsgb.org under the ‘on the air’ tab.
It’s now been fourteen years since I made a phone call to my father Martin (M1MRB), and told him I wanted to start a podcast. After explaining what a podcast was, we agreed to produce ten and see if anyone listened.
Now, as we celebrate our fourteenth birthday, with listeners in over one hundred countries, and countless friends made along the way, we are asking for your annual support to keep the ICQPodcast free of commercial adverting.
Four Types of Suggested Donations
We have created three one-off values (£14, £140, and £1.40) for you to show your support of the show and send your birthday wishes. The £1.40 donation would also be a great value to set up as a monthly subscription (all you need to do is select the monthly subscription link at sign-off).
If you wish to show the value you receive from the show with your own figure, select the other option and send your support.
One-off donations are easy, but to really support the show, consider a subscription donation. Many listeners support the show for as little as £1 a month – http://www.icqpodcast.com/donate
Your support has been amazing
It’s hard to put into words the encouragement and positivity that have been received from listeners over the years. When times have been tough, a kind word or comment about the show gives us the strength to continue.

SILENT KEY – Tom GM3ZLC (Copied off WoSARS Members Forum – GM4COX)
I’ve just been informed by Keith GM4DAE (Keith had been looking after Tom’s ‘affairs’) of the sad news that a former member of the Club -Tom GM3ZLC passed away last night (10th June).
Tom had been suffering from a terminal condition over the last year or so. Unfortunately this has come to pass. In one way it’s a blessing as Tom was no longer the Tom that I (and Sam GM4BGS) remember.
I first met Tom in 1969 as keen SWL (as was Tom at the time – however, he had just passed his City & Guilds Radio Amateurs Exam and awaiting his new callsign) . It was my first visit to the then Radio Club of Scotland (RCS). Standing outside the then Clubrooms (North Woodside Road); a grey Vauxhall Viva pulled up with Tom driving. Asked if I was waiting for the Club Rooms to open, he invited to wait inside the car.
Tom’s main interest was HF CW, with the odd excursion onto 2M with his trusty FT-221R.
In latter years he became involved with the Mid Lanark ARS through Dennis MM0DNX (SK). They both lived in Garrowhill and as Dennis’s mobility deteriorated Tom ‘chauffeured’ him to and from the Club.
