THE DIGITAL SCENE

The DV Scotland Phoenix Monday Night Net operates every Monday from 8pm to 9.30pm with MM3XGP. This is via all DV Scotland Phoenix repeaters on Talk Group 23556, time Slot 2. In addition, via Allstar HUB 53937, D-Star reflector XLX600D and System Fusion Reflector 0-DVSPh. The Coast-to-Coast Net takes place on Saturdays, from 9 to 10pm, with GM5DVS. THE HF SCENE

On Sunday afternoons, Kilmarnock and Loudon Amateur Radio Club has a net on 3720kHz from 2pm. This is followed by a quiz on 145.475MHz from 7.45pm on Sunday evenings. West of Scotland Amateur Radio Society will have its usual Solder Group meeting from 6pm on Wednesday. GB2BD

On the 10th of October 1923 the BBC, then the British Broadcasting Company, opened its seventh transmitter and based it in Aberdeen. Using the callsign GB2BD, the BBC Amateur Radio Group and Aberdeen Amateur Radio Society are celebrating 100 years of broadcasting from the north-east of Scotland on the 3rd and 4th of November 2023. The date chosen for this event falls between the start of transmissions and the centenary of the first Gaelic broadcast by the BBC. FURTHER NEWS

A reminder that the 2023 Scottish Microwave Round Table, or GMRT will be held between 10.30am and 5pm on Saturday the 11th of November. The event will take place at the Museum of Communication, Burntisland, Fife in Scotland. An interesting programme of speakers has been arranged. Microwave test facilities will be provided, and the event will be an opportunity to purchase components and microwave-related items. The cost is £12 and this includes a buffet lunch. A dinner will be held in the evening at a local hotel. GET CONNECTED WITH A PI

BORDERS RALLY

JAMBOREE ON THE AIR

JOTA is an annual event, this coming weekend (21/22nd) in which Scouts all over the world connect with each other by means of amateur radio. Short-wave radio signals carry their voices to virtually any corner of the world. It’s the shear excitement of having a live conversation with a fellow Scout at some other place in the world that attracts so many young people to this event. Stirling Amateur Radio Society meets at the Club House, Throsk, FK7 7XY at 7pm on Thursday. The club is open for projects and operating on Sundays from 10am. The Society is running multi-station, Special Event Station, GB1CWC, from its clubhouse in Throsk, near Stirling, from Thursday the 10th of August to Sunday 13th of August 2023, celebrating Stirling hosting the time trial events in the inaugural UCI, Cycling World Championships. The Society would like to extend an invitation to individual radio amateurs and clubs to participate as guest operators at this multi-station event. Any individual or club interested in participating as guest operators should email secretary@gm6nx.com with the date and time they would like to operate the station. This is to ensure they will be guaranteed a slot in the operating schedule. Short-wave listeners and the general public are also welcome to attend. GB2RS newsreader Graham, G4JBD has developed an online tool which plays Morse code based on the current GB2RS News script at a variety of different speeds. To help simulate a realistic HF-operating environment, the system can be set to include man-made band noise, or QRM, and/or natural band noise, or QRN.
