The West of Scotland Amateur Radio Society successfully took part in last weekend’s TRANSATLANTIC  CELEBRATIONS from their new Shack in the hills. Using a 167M (Top Band) Beverage Rx antenna in conjunction with a Top Band dipole, they successfully contacted GB2ZV, and also taking part  G6XX, the RSGB’s contest station. Unfortunately W1AW though heard from 0225hrs onwards  (peaking 549 by 0400hrs) they were unable to attract their attention for a QSO. Possibly a slight difference in power levels 70W v 1.5KW’s?

Also the Club has its Solder Group on Wednesdays and its main meeting on Fridays at the Rose Street HQ. Some meetings are also on Zoom. There are nets daily from 11am on 145.425MHz. The 6m beacon GB3RMK has been relocated and is now back on the air from IO77RM, which is near Inverness. It is configured as per the IARU Synchronised Beacon Project, operating on 50.002MHz and 50.460MHz and running 20W top a dipole oriented north-south. Keeper Chris, GM3WOJ will appreciate spots via beaconspot or via DX Summit.

The West of Scotland ARS (WoSARS) has been running the special event station GB4GDS celebrating 90 years of the Guide Dog Association which ends on the 2nd November. More information about the station can be found on the Club’s WEBSITE page

Kilmarnock and Loudon ARC have taken over the operation of the Paul Godley Centenary SE Station at Ardrossan and will be operating for the QSO party on 11/12th December and for the hoped for reception of a broadcast from 1BCG in the USA which was the original callsign used to transmit the first verified amateur radio signal across the Atlantic.

Can you help with a Generator? The KLARC Team at Ardrossan are trying to get the loan of a generator for 240v with an output of 5-10kVA. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone who maybe has one or knows of one could help out.

Stirling and District ARS are holding an Open Day Extravaganza on Sunday 3rd October at their Shack, which will be available to operate from 11am with tea and coffee. The programme includes a midday BBQ and there will be a Boot Sale (£10 for pitches) in the grounds. 2pm features a talk by Gavin Nesbitt on how to   “Improve your QSO Count on VHF and above”. Gavin is a key member of CambHams so brings a lot of experience in all things VHF+. To cap it off there will be an ARDF completion around the Estate in the afternoon.

Sadly we report that John GM4PLI has become a silent key. He was a long standing member of WoSARS and was always good for a chat on GB3CS or PA. John was unfortunate to never have good health, but soldiered on as best he could. John’s Funeral is on Monday 4th Oct at 11am at Dalnotter Cremetorium – More information – HERE .

“………….Alan Stark, GM0BUE, whose QTH was in Kilsyth, became a Silent Key on Thursday 9 September, 2021. He had become a victim of COVID-19.

His brother, John, thinks that Alan might have been a former member of WoSARS.
The funeral is on Saturday 9 October, at New Monkland Cemetery, Condorrat Road (B802), Glenmavis.  09.15. Church Service 10.00, followed by a buffet.
I was privileged to work GM0BUE on 6m FM, possibly through GB3SL, while walking the dogs in Alexandra Park. This was quite some time ago and certainly before lock-down……………”
