Commencing on the 6th of October through to the 2nd of November, The West of Scotland ARS (WoSARS) will be running  a special event station GB4GDS celebrating 90 years of the Guide Dog Association. Also,  as of last Wednesday, the Club’s Solder Group has resumed it’s weekly meetings at the Electron Club within the Centre of Contemporary Arts, Sauchiehall St, Glasgow. More information about this technical & training side of the Club can be found at wosars.club/licence-training .

And next Sunday (3rd Oct) from 1100 hrs Stirling and District Radio Society  GM6NX would like to invite amateurs and other interested members of the public to an open afternoon at its Stirling QTH.  More information – HERE .

NEWS FOR SCOTLAND (GB2RS Extract)

Some sad news first. John Rankin 2M0JCG from Saltcoats has recently become a Silent Key. He came to amateur radio in 2011 being a CB-er before that and spent 11 years in the British Army where he was no stranger to radio. He was a member of the Ayr Amateur Radio Club and Kilmarnock and Loudon Club. Out condolences go to his family.

With clubs beginning to meet face to face and enjoy other activities, please make sure you keep GB2RS up to date. We can now accept repeat information such as nets and meetings but you must let us know at least every three months that nothing has changed.

WoSARS this weekend from its new shack the club is taking part in the 144MHz Trophy portable operating weekend and the 24hr.SSB Field Day. Details at www.wosars.club .

As we heard in the main news Moray Firth Amateur Radio Society will be operating as GB0CSL from the Covesea Skerries Lighthouse, Lossiemouth, with the kind permission of the lighthouse trustees. Activity will be on HF and VHF, with details listed at www.mfars.club and on QRZ.com under GB0CSL.

Kevin, G0PEK and Lauren, 2E0HLR will be taking part in the Megacycle DXpedition as they cycle from Lands End to John O’Groats. They started off on the the 1 st of August, and they hope to be home by the 28 th . They will be carrying radio equipment on the bikes and operating VHF bicycle mobile and APRS along much of the route.. You can follow their progress on the Megacycle DXpedition Facebook page. They will be operating from Cape Wrath for Lighthouses on the air.

It has been reported that the repeater GB3FE serving the Stirling area is still out of service which will impact all users, especially the Stirling nets today, and Monday and Thursday and Falkirk net on Wednesday. At present it is unknown when service will be restored.

Falkirk Amateur Radio Club’s net on Wednesday is unable to operate until further notice owing to repeater GB3FE being down. Peter, gm8gax@tiscali.co.uk

For the same reason the Stirling Club Net today and the ones on Monday and Thursday are also not taking place on GB3FE
