GB5SC – BBC 100 Years Of Broadcasting in Scotland (5SC)

Operation commenced on the morning of Saturday 4th @ 0000hrs from the present BBC Pacific Quay headquarters, and ran till 2359 hrs on Monday the 6th (the exact date 100 years ago) using HF, VHF, UHF and QO-100. The BBC club (Amateur Radio Group) team were joined by operators from the West of Scotland Amateur Radio Society. Also to compliment the operation, GB2RS for the Glasgow Area was transmitted from the ‘Shack’ by Vic GM3VTB. Pictures of the operation along with video is now available. TECHNICAL SUPPORT NET

On Wednesday, from 8pm to 9pm, George, MM0JNL, will be hosting a Technical and Support Net via GB3BT. The net is open to anyone, within range, who has any radio-related issues and needs assistance or guidance. “……….. GB3ORK, the Orkney Islands 5MHz beacon has closed down following the expiry of its Notice of Variation (NoV). It was the last of a chain of three beacons that once provided a wealth of data for the “5MHz EXPERIMENT” prior to the band being formally allocated. The RSGB thanks its keeper for the time and dedication given ……………………”

Wigtownshire Amateur Radio Club is pleased to announce that it is now meeting monthly on Saturdays. The next meeting will be at the AIRD Centre on Saturday the 18th of March from 11am to 3pm. The West of Scotland Amateur Radio Society successfully took part in last weekend’s TRANSATLANTIC  CELEBRATIONS from their new Shack in the hills. Using a 167M (Top Band) Beverage Rx antenna in conjunction with a Top Band dipole, they successfully contacted GB2ZV, and also taking part  G6XX, the RSGB’s contest station. Unfortunately W1AW though heard from 0225hrs onwards  (peaking 549 by 0400hrs) they were unable to attract their attention for a QSO. Possibly a slight difference in power levels 70W v 1.5KW’s?

Also the Club has its Solder Group on Wednesdays and its main meeting on Fridays at the Rose Street HQ. Some meetings are also on Zoom. There are nets daily from 11am on 145.425MHz. Wednesday sees a net from 8pm on 433.425MHz and on Friday there’s an open net on 145.425MHz from 8pm. Checkout WOSARS.CLUB

New VP0 Prefix For South Georgia & South Sandwich Islands

Licences for amateur radio stations operated in the British Antarctic Territory have previously been issued under the provisions of the jurisdiction of the Falkland Islands Communications Regulator.

During 2020, the Falkland Islands Communication Regulator undertook a process to revalidate Falkland Islands Amateur Radio Licences, primarily to bring the Amateur Radio Licences into compliance with the Falkland Islands’ Communications Ordinance 2019. This process identified that the British Antarctic Territory was no longer covered by the provisions of the jurisdiction of the Falkland Island Communications Regulator, and that the Regulator no longer had the power to issue licences for amateur radio stations in the British Antarctic Territory……………Read MORE .

GB100BBC – Centenary Callsign For The BBC

Members of the BBC’s radio club, The London BBC Radio Group, have been granted an exceptional all-year Special Event callsign to help celebrate the BBC’s centenary year in 2022.

Ofcom will permit GB100BBC to operate throughout the year, starting at midnight on New Year’s Day, from the headquarters station in Broadcasting House, London.

Operating slots will then be allocated for use by individual members and local groups of operators, from their home QTH, or BBC premises throughout the UK.

TM100AA – 100 Years Of Amateur Radio In France

For the ‘centenary’ of the first official authorization of an amateur station, the REF (THE FRENCH TRANSMITTER NETWORK) will use the call sign ‘TM100AA’ from 1st to 15h September 2021

The call sign “8AA” was assigned to André Riss on September 3, 1921.

André was born in 1894, in Boulogne and was authorized at the age of 27 to use a transmitter of his own construction with a power of 1 kilowatt.

It became “eF8AA” (Europe France 8AA) in 1927, then “F8AA” in 1932.

He joined the REF in August 1927, n ° REF 423.

André was active until his death on March 2, 1982.
