Did Brazilian Priest Precede Fessenden & Marconi With Audio Tx ?

Father Roberto Landell de Moura (January 21, 1861 – June 30, 1928), commonly known as Roberto Landell, was a Brazilian Roman Catholic priest and inventor. He is best known for his work developing long-distance audio transmissions, using a variety of technologies, including an improved megaphone device, photophone (using light beams) and radio signals.

It was reported in June 1899 that he had successfully transmitted audio over a distance of 7 kilometers (4.3 miles),  which was followed by a second, public, demonstration on June 3, 1900. A lack of technical details makes it uncertain which sending technology was being used, however, if radio signals were employed, then these would be the earliest reported audio transmissions by radio. Landell received patents in Brazil and the United States during the first decade of the 1900s.

The situation with the Covid-19 virus is changing rapidly. You should check before travelling that the activities announced here are taking place. This listing is correct as of 12 noon on Friday the 13th of March.

Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, the CW Boot Camp at GM6NX Stirling due to take place on the 22nd of March and the 23rd annual GMDX Convention due to take place on the 4th of April have been postponed. New dates later in 2020 will be announced as the situation becomes clearer.

Bartek – MM7AJI Wins WoSARS Construction Competition

Friday the 22nd November saw the annual Construction Competition take place, and it was gratifying to see so many good ‘technical’ entries:

  • BARTEK – MM7AJI – Homebrew High Capacity, used Li-Po, Power and Management Pack – 1st with 167 Points
  • CONG . SWL – Homebrew Capacitor Health Checker – 2nd with 155 Points
  • STUART – MM1ESW – Homebrew Remote HF Loop – 3rd with 146 Points

This year the Scoring regime slightly changed – HERE. Although the Categories remained the same, the Points awarded to each was changed to give a possible maximum of 100 Points/Judge.

And to this end, our two Judges on the night were ERNIE – GM0EZP and JOHN – GM0XFK. Thanks ‘lads’!

The Top Three – Cong, Bartek & Stuart

This year’s standard of construction was high, but as has been said on other Construction related POSTS , it’s not the most technically complex, beautifully built gizzo that will win, as you can see other factors are taken into consideration. So next year please have a go.
